In over half of Los Angeles metropolitan areas, the number of homes sold continued their upward trend in the 3rd quarter of 2016 when compared to the same period in 2015.
Key neighborhoods of interest for buyers were Monterey Hills, Boyle Heights, Atwater Village, Malibu, and West Hollywood–all with a scorching 52% or higher increase in the volume of homes sold over 2015’s statistics.
A lack of inventory in most areas continues to drive prices up and continues to move existing inventory from listed to sold at a quicker pace. Sellers are benefiting from a lack of competition. Buyers are benefiting from low interest rates (this week’s average 30-year fixed interest rate is 3.75% and the 15-year is 3.15%).
